Approximately 19 miles from
downtown Juneau in the southeast
area of the state of Alaska a beautiful
glacier has been able to reach.
Glaciers covering an area of 5,815
hectares area is protected by the
Tongass National Forest.
This beautiful place was first discovered
by a researcher named John Muir
nature that this place was originally
named the Tlingit Auk Kwaan (or
Aak’w Kwaan) Band in 1888, but in
honor of Thomas Corwin Mendenhall.
He expands the area.
